Disclaimer
What the content on this site is, and what it is not.
Effective July 1, 2026
This site is published by Nearby Tax, based in San Jose, CA 95134.
1. General information, not advice
Everything published on this site is general information about United States federal and state tax matters. It is not tax, legal, or accounting advice for any specific person or situation.
Tax outcomes depend on facts. A rule that applies cleanly to one person may not apply to you at all, and an article cannot know your circumstances. Do not act on anything here without confirming that it applies to your own facts.
2. Licensure
Returns are prepared and signed by a CPA licensed by the Washington State Board of Accountancy. A CPA license is granted by a state rather than by the federal government, and the license held here is a Washington license. The practice is based in California and the work is carried out remotely.
Federal returns may be prepared for clients in any state. A state return, or a matter before a state tax authority, can call for a license, registration, or practice privilege in that state. Where that applies to your situation it will be raised with you before any work is taken on, not after. Nothing on this site should be read as a claim to be licensed in every state.
3. No client relationship
Reading this site, sending an enquiry through the contact form, or exchanging email does not create a client relationship. That relationship begins only when an engagement is agreed in writing with Nearby Tax, and it covers only the work described in that engagement.
4. No guaranteed outcome
Nothing on this site is a promise about the result of any filing. No specific refund, tax position, penalty abatement, or resolution of a notice is guaranteed, and no one can honestly guarantee one.
5. Content ages
Tax law changes, and figures such as thresholds, rates, and deadlines change with it. Each article carries a visible last reviewed date. If that date is old relative to the tax year you care about, treat the detail as possibly out of date and confirm it before relying on it.
6. Third party links
Where this site links to an external source such as the Internal Revenue Service or a state revenue department, that source is not under the control of Nearby Tax and its accuracy is not warranted here. Links are provided because the original source is usually the better thing to read.
7. Circular 230
Content published here is not written or intended to be used, and cannot be used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties that may be imposed on any taxpayer.
